Young Baker nominated for prestigious Rising Star award of the Baking Industry Awards.
One of our young talents, Beth, has been shortlisted for the Rising Star awards at the Baking Industry Awards (BIA) being held in London next month. Beth submitted a detailed application to successfully reach the next round to attend an interview with the judging panel last week. After sifting through many applicants, Beth was selected as a finalists and is due to attend the BIA Gala Awards evening on 7th September held at the London Hilton on Park Lane and hosted by Rugby World Cup team player Matt Dawson.
We are all chuffed with Beth’s success with Michael Bell, Managing Director commenting, “Beth is an asset to our family business and we have enjoyed developing her talents by empowering her through the apprenticeship scheme” He added “She has a keen passion for baking which the rest of the workforce are catching onto and wanting a slice of – she is a winner in our eyes regardless of the outcome!”
Beth joined Bells in 2010 from Ullswater Community College, following in the footsteps of her grandmother, mother and older sister. She has excelled in her role after joining the Bakery Apprenticeship Programme, funded by Bells and orchestrated by Kendal College (click here to find out more about the apprenticeship scheme). Always willing to take on a challenge, Beth focuses on gluten free products, having recently made a gluten free, wheat free and dairy free Millionaires Tart which will form the basis of her project work throughout the year ahead of her L3 Apprenticeship course. She will ultimately present her final project to senior management at Bells. Here are some of her other creations involving chocolate and mint flavours…
Beth has developed through the ranks at Bells and currently manages a production line within the gluten. wheat and dairy free Bakery on site in Lazonby. She says “I hope that the success I have achieved so far will help to enthuse more young staff at the Bakery and give them vision to see the opportunities available to them at Bells to develop their Baking skills further”.
We’ll keep you up to date with the final announcement at the Gala dinner – stay posted!
