Young Baker achieves Runner-up prize at Baking Industry Awards Gala night
One of our inspirational bakers, Beth received the runner up prize at the renowned Rising Star award of the Baking Industry Awards. With many challenging steps throughout the application and interviews to reach the finalist stage, Beth was presented with her award by Rugby Union World Cup player Matt Dawson – a regular on A Question of Sport.
The awards evening had a Moulin Rouge theme and was held at London Hilton on Park Lane. The glamorous event attracted more than 1000 guests from the baking industry elite. Beth attended as guest of former Baker of the Year winner Piero Scacco who had personally sponsored her Rising Star Award category. The whole evening was truly a night to remember – from the champagne reception to the casino experience and Cancan girls’ performance.
Beth said: “The whole experience had been amazing and the Awards Evening was the icing on the cake. I was so pleased that my Mum could be there to share in my success and felt very proud to have achieved this success so early on in my career!” Since the age of 16, Beth has worked at Bells, and has progressively moved up the career ladder to Line Supervisor, making the most of her opportunities provided to her through the Bakery Apprenticeship programme, fully funded by Bells. She added: “It has filled me with renewed enthusiasm having been around the leading young bakers in the country and has increased the confidence I have in my ability and development.”
Philip, Operations Director, said: “It is a fantastic achievement and a great reward for all Bethany’s hard work. “She has flourished all of her opportunities and has really improved in light of the Apprenticeship programme. “I feel sure that she will continue to nurture her talent further at Bells along with the other young rising stars we have growing here at Lazonby”
Beth now hopes to inspire other youngsters to get involved in baking. She has already presented the apprenticeship scheme to local schools, helped to support some of our work experience students and judged school bake off competitions.
